The more Jeff helps Miranda, the more problems he creates for himself... proof that no good deed goes unpunished. Comment: An unjustly neglected horror gem. When released, this film was promptly compared to The Wicker Man. And, just like the latter film, it was promptly relegated to art house showings in the US. Too bad because Spellbinder has the narrative pull of a good mystery right from the start; there are intriguing characters and one genuinely sensual sex scene. In the second half are several story twists worthy of Agatha Christie... this film is definitely not over 'til it's over. A well-acted and directed, smart, creepy little thriller, not to be missed. New, factory sealed item released from MGM Limited Edition Collection video-on-demand library on recorded media. Per the label, the film running time is 99 minutes - the longest and best print of this film available - with English audio with no subtitles. The actual film image apears to be 4:3 - full screen. However, the DVD displays in a widescreen 1.85:1 ratio with black letter-boxing on both sides of the screen to fill out to 1.85:1. English audio with no subtitles. Per MGM's website, this DVD disc is NTSC format and designed to play on DVD players in North America. It will probably not play on PlayStations or similar game devices.
