Description: Premium 6/8" straight razor handmade in Solingen, Germany. Stainless steel. Full hollow ground. Acrylic scales made to appear like a reptile skin. It is a shame that this razor doesn't fly off the shelves, and rather speaks to the dying trade of hollow ground non-Chinese/Pakistani razors today. When Dovo moved from a factory they had been in for over one hundred years to a smaller factory, they found the old 'blanks' which were made in to this Facharbeit today; 1000 units of steel produced from the late 1960s to early 1970s, but never finished. It isn't uncommon in a grinding factory for things like this to fall behind the cobwebs awhile. For reasons beyond the skill set of this author, the grinders as a whole will agree, to a person, that the forgings of yesteryear are superior to the forgings of today for straight razors. For but one example of the many ways that element of production's not quite the same as it was when demand for the segment was larger, back then the raw steel was sent to the forger as flat sheets; today, both for the stainless and carbon steel pieces, the steel comes to the forgers is rolls which are similar to a bail of hay. Because a forged razor is so very thin, when that piece of steel is heat treated and quenched for durability and flexibility following forging, it will retain a slight 'memory' of how it was once a rolled piece of unforged steel, and this means that the razor can simply never be truly as flat as they once were. Today, they'll always have a slight bias toward the center of the "show" side of the blade being curved upward, while in the razors' better years of production there was not a null bias toward either side of a perfectly flat line.
