Simply put, it’s a short leash that is long enough for you to grab, but not long enough that the dog will step on it, get tangled in it or catch it on items in the home. Typically, a training tab or short leash is used for medium to large dogs, however, because I make them only 10” long (not counting the wood bead and tail), you may be able to use it for smaller dogs. If you want one smaller, just ask as I do make custom lengths at no extra charge. The main use of this short leash is to use the pressure of a leash anywhere (indoor or outdoor) to guide the dog to get the correct behavior without having to deal with a traditional long lead. Ideas for training tab use – 1. When walking your dog in crowded or busy areas, such as walking in urban areas, street fairs, or any public dog friendly events 2. Better control when visiting the veterinarian 3. When visiting a groomer or when you’re bathing or grooming the dog yourself 4. Transitioning to off leash work by switching to a training tab, the dog will still feel the weight of a leash on his/her collar. The tab is there to grab as needed to guide the dog or if you need to switch back to your longer lead. 5. Agility training, water sports, hunting dogs, and is helpful for guiding the dog through obstacles or if you need to quickly gain control of your dog when off-leash. 6. Perfect for Service Dog handlers. The length is perfect for training exercises and is great when training new puppies as well as guiding working dogs.
