Description: Dirceu Carvalho was born on 10 September 1942 in the city of Dois Corregos, in the interior of State of São Paulo, Brazil. As a boy, he began drawing in school, and as an adult, he was encouraged by his friend and colleague Edgar Calhado to create primitive art. Cassio M'Boy, the pioneer of primitive painting in Brazil, became his mentor. His childhood experiences inspired his preference for portraying rustic art through rural events, and enabled him to assimilate and appreciate the lyrical expression of the Brazilian people. This is why Dirceu Carvalho's creations are a true expression of Brazilian primitive art. Permanent Collections: Museum of Art of São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil. National Museum of Fine Arts - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This painting is in excellent condition. The dimensions including the frame are 9.5" x 8.5" x 1.25". The painting itself measures 6.5" x 5.25".
