This work is known for its extremely detailed dutone lithographed plates which depict various scenes of the Holy Land and the Middle East. Roberts journeyed to the Holy Land in 1838 where he spent much time depicting the architecture, costumes, and landscapes that he found there. The culmination of all his efforts, Views in the Holy Land..., is indeed one of the greatest travel works ever completed. George Croly wrote the wonderfully descriptive text, when available, and Louis Haghe turned Roberts' drawings into the magnificent lithographs seen here. The plates are original duotone lithographs from the folio edition.Guarantee of Authenticity All of the prints we sell are ORIGINALS. We guarantee all of our prints to be authentic. First Edition David Roberts Lithographs have been highly collectible almost from the moment of their publication. This is in part due to their large format, which allows them to be displayed as significant works of art, but primarily it is due to their quality and beauty - they are considered some of the finest tintstone lithographs ever produced. While it is difficult to predict the future value of these prints, buying and holding quality artwork as an investment has proven to be a wise decision in the past.
