Description: Vintage Original Circular Bronze (35mm) Commemorative medal for the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Volunteers of the 3rd Freedom Regiment with original ribbon. From my personal collection. The Freedom Regiments fought to establish an independent Czechoslovak Republic at the end of World War I. Obverse shows a female figure holding a standard in her left hand and in her right hand holding linden leaves and a shield with the arms of Slovakia. Also in the background is the lion of Bohemia, and in the foreground is an oval shield bearing an upright sword imposed on the arms of Slovakia and circumscribed ‘ČESKLOVENSKÝ DOBRUVOLEC 1918-1919’ (Czechoslovak Volunteers 1918-1919), inscribed around the edge ‘PRO REPUBLICU ARMÁDU A DEMOKRACII’ (For the Republican Army and Democracy). The reverse has ‘ČS’ imposed on a laurel branch and is inscribed ‘MANIFESTAČNÍ SJEZD DOBROVOLCŮ LET 1918-1919 A JUBILEJNÍ OSLAVY BÝV. PLUKU SVOBODY III 1938 V BRNĚ’ (Mass Rally of the Volunteers of 1918-1919 for the Anniversary Celebrations of former Third Freedom Regiment at Brno, 1938). The medal is signed ‘SEBOR O.’ at reverse bottom.
