These gatherings are massive events. The Hugo Awards are given (as well as others), nominations made for future awards, exhibits, art showcases, costumes and cosplay, autograph opportunities, discussion panels features go on and on. It's a major event, providing events that support charities. There is typically a guest of honor, and a variety of other distinctions such as Fan Favorites, In Memory Of, artist image galleries and etc... The Worldcon program books are an filled with a variety items. LOTS of SF genre and related advertising. Maps and layouts of the event, lists of awards & nominations, author/artist/publisher features, historical articles or features. Artist portfolios and special sections dedicated to whatever that years even was focused on. These books are quite a wonder to go through. I will happily answer any further questions.
