Description: Clarkia Flower Seeds Clarkia unguiculata - (2000 to 20,000 Seeds) ********** Clarkia is native to California and can be found in chaparral, foothills, and grassland areas. Flowers colors very from pink, lavender, and white. The genus name commemorates William Clark of the Lewis & Clark Expedition. Suitable for beds and borders, wildflower mixtures, and pollinator gardens. Has a slight fragrance. Because this is an annual, it is best propagated from seed in Fall in an area that has already been cleared of weeds. A very light layer of organic mulch will allow seedlings to push through. It will typically reseed itself each year. *** ()*** MORE INFO: Name: Clarkia Scientific Name: Clarkia unguiculata Other Common Names: elegant clarkia or mountain garland Color: Flowers colors very from pink, lavender, and white Hardiness Zones: N/A (but reseeds itself easily, so it acts like a perennial in all zones) Plant Seeds: Outdoors After Frost or Indoors Weeks Before Last Frost Plant Height: 18-30" Plant Spacing: 9"-12" Cycle: Annual Bloom Season - Spring, Summer Light Requirements: Full Sun, Partial Shade Soil & Water Preferences: Average Other: Attracts bees, birds, & butterflies, Soil pH requirements: 6.6 to 7.5 (neutral) 7.6 to 7.8 (mildly alkaline) 7.9 to 8.5 (alkaline) Mountain Garland is native to the western United States. This flower comes in a variety of fluorescent shades of pinks, purples and whites. Mountain Garland is a close relative of Godetia. This plant grows 3-4 feet tall in the Northwest and may need support once full-grown. Zones 1-11 provide good growing climate. The buds bloom from the lower portions of the long stems to the top. Mountain Garland makes an excellent cut flower and will last longer if it is cut when the flowers are just starting to bloom at the bottom of the stem and there are a lot of buds left to open on the top. This flower is brilliantly colored and stunningly bright. Plant it in a sunlit area that receives partial shade. Like its relative, the Godetia, it will not survive when planted in an arid or humid climate. Also like the Godetia, this flower needs soil that is lacking in nutrients; otherwise it will be overwhelmed with a lot of foliage and few blooms. Soil that is low in nitrogen supports this flower particularly well. Mountain Garland needs to be planted outdoors and does not transplant well. It should be planted in the spring, but if you are located in zones 7-10 you can also plant it in the fall. Max shipping fee is $4.29.
