Description: This Historical Reenacting item is from a smoke-free home and smoke-free environment. Very well taken care of and from a personal collection of historical re-enacting uniforms and costumes. This is an excellent reproduction of a U.S. Army made natural leather sling for use with U.S. Civil War era rifle muskets such as the 3-band Enfield. The leather sling is 64 inches long and is designed to fit the 1853 British Enfield Rifles. It may also fit other Civil War era weapons with sling swivels mounted on the guard and forward band. The sling incorporates a standing leather loop through which the sling passed at the trigger guard end of the musket. The other end had a flat brass adjustment hook, which was retained by a pair of brass brads and a sewn flap at the end of the sling. The hook engaged one of several holes along the length of the sling, which allowed the length to be adjusted. A slinging leather loop allowed the looped section of the sling to be kept tight and out of the way. Approximately 64” long. Comes in natural leather as pictured here - as would have been issued to Soldiers 160 years ago. Oiling the leather will give it a darker color, but they were all originally made and issued as you see here. It won’t take long for oil and sunlight to darken the leather. Comes still in original plastic wrap and unused. Ready to be used for your next Civil War event.
