Description: Vintage religious lithograph print in an attractive decorated picture frame. "IHS" This is Latin language initials " I. H. S. ", Iesus (Jesus) Hominum (of humankind) Salvator (Savior). The inscription "IHS" indicates Jesus as Savior of Humankind. Jesus Christ as a blond boy with his hand raised in a Christian gesture.In his other hand he holds a sphere surmounted by a cross , representing Christianity and the world.He wears priestly garb and crown and is flanked by a pair of tall candlesticks.On his chest is a pendant with a lamb, declaring him to be the Lamb of God. Published by " E. G. Co. Inc., New York " Undated; circa first half of the 1900s, probably 1920s. Edward Gross Company, Inc., was established in New York City about 1906. The company was a publisher and distributor of picture frames and mouldings , art prints, postcard series, etchings , reproductions of paintings ( including paintings by Maxfield Parrish ), etc., in the early half of the 1900s. The company was run by four brothers, Edward, Albert, Samuel and Jacob. The brothers were all born in the 1870s in New Rochelle, New York Edward the eldest brother, was born in 1870 and Jacob, the youngest, was born in 1876.The last known company catalog was printed in 1959, and the company ceased operations with the death of Jacob in 1963 at the age of 87 years. This is an uncommon lithograph by the E. G. company, in an antique decorated picture frame, composition over wood. ------ Frame dimensions : Overall frame size, 15" x 19" Rabbet ( size of picture which fits well ), 12" x 15" Sight ( viewing area from the front ), 11 1/2" x 14 1/2" The frame is about 3/4" deep. ------ Includes the original glass.Old wire hanger at the back.Old original backing board.Remnant of the original backing paper. Condition.The print has somewhat faded but is otherwise in very good condition.The frame is in nice condition.Just one small chip at the top-left corner, at the outside edge ( not visible from the front of the frame ).Other than a few very small dings, the frame is in excellent shape, almost as-new!Exceptionally nice.One of the screw-eyes for the wire hanger is loose ( it just needs to be repositioned a bit ).The glass is in perfect condition. Scarce ; I've searched for another example of this particular lithograph, but thus far I have not been able to find any other. The antique picture frame is very attractive! Carefully packed for shipment to the buyer.
