[Christmas] Radio City Music Hall Rockettes: Original 1934 Photograph

Description: [Christmas] Radio City Music Hall Rockettes: Original 1934 Photograph [Christmas] Radio City Music Hall Rockettes: Original 1934 Photograph [Christmas] Radio City Music Hall Rockettes Original 1934 Photograph Original 7 x 5.25 inch photograph of the famous Radio City Music Hall Rockettes, an interesting photograph showing them in a dance routine on the stage, with the orchestra in the pit given equal weight in the composition. Founded as the "Missouri Rockets" in St. Louis, MO by Russell Markert in 1925, the group was brought to New York City by Samuel Roxy Rothafel to perform at his Roxy Theatre and renamed the "Roxyettes." When Rothafell left the Roxy Theatre to open Radio City Music Hall, the dance troupe followed and later became known as the Rockettes. The group performed as part of opening night at Radio City Music Hall in 1932 and in 1936, the troupe won the grand prize at the "Paris Exposition de Dance." During the Christmas season, the Rockettes have performed multiple shows a day, seven days a week, for 77 years. As shown in the present image, they have been especially known for their perfect unison leg kicks in a chorus line.
