Description: CC-14 "John Bayard" PCGS CU62 $4 Nov. 29, 1775 Continental Colonial Currency Click images to enlarge Description Very Choice & 2nd Highest Graded by PCGS November 29, 1775 "FOUR DOLLARS" Continental Colonial Currency Note. Very conservatively graded & certified by PCGS as New CU62, with simply just superb eye-appeal. This example is the 2nd highest graded CC-14 by PCGS, and is likely one of the finest known. Darkly inked (especially the seal where a boar is attacking a spear) with no problems of any kind, and there are no pin holes. Bold 5-digit serial number 47222 in red ink, along with the even bolder handwritten signatures of Samuel Morris (in brown ink) and John Bayard (in red ink). Samuel Morris, was a Tanner, Lawyer, and Merchant. As early as 1752, he participated in public service as Sheriff of Philadelphia County. But, during the American Revolution (like his other family members) he rose to be a resolute America Patriot. He was Vice President to The Council of Safety in 1776. A Member of The Board of War in 1776 and 1777. A Councilor of the State in 1776. And a Captain of Philadelphia Militia. John Bayard, was a Merchant. John Bayard was a Colonel in the 2nd Regiment of Philadelphia Volunteers, and was a founding member of The Sons of Liberty. As a politician, he became the Speaker of The Pennsylvania General Assembly, and most importantly, a Member of the Continental Congress from 1785 through 1787. PCGS has graded a total of (37) examples of a CC-14 in all grades with (8) of those being given an Apparent grade because of problems. Of the (29) problem-free notes, only (2) of those are graded as uncirculated. This CU62 offered here, and just one other graded a little higher. That's it! This is an authentic & historical item that was printed in 1775 and issued during the Revolutionary War (1775-83), just a few short months before the signing of the Declaration of Independence on the 4th of July, 1776.
