At the estate auction we got it from we talked to the seller and he said it was from his fathers collection. He had many Cast Iron bells from Antique Fire Trucks. He believes this is an old fire bell his dad talked about coming from somewhere in Northern Illinois. We didn’t get to have a long conversation and even at the time of listing this we are still searching for more info. The UNIQUENESS of the painting of this bell and what seems to be some sort of Fire related marking on it is amazing! The bell measures 11” in across at the bottom and is 12” tall with a weight of 16lbs The bell clapper is marked 7.8.9 -- The clapper has an amazing sound when it hits. CLAPPER IS MARKED 7.8.9 - it weighs almost 2 lbs and is 9” long The Bell, we believe, is cast iron as a magnet did stick to it. As you will see in the photos the clapper was set in with a metal chain. Not sure exactly what piece may be missing but you can tell that something the clapper would have swing on is missing. There is a metal piece inside that they used to hold the clapper in place. The top piece with the "valve" like piece seems to be original to the Bell as it is painted the same as the Bell. This bell is perfect for adding to any collection of transportation memorabilia. This bell was purchased in Northwestern Illinois. If you have ANY QUESTIONS please ask before bidding/buying.
