Al-Ma'mun is the son of Harun al-Rashid and is the seventh caliph of the Abbasid dynasty. He usurped his brother al-Amin to become the Caliph. His full name being Abu Jafar Abdul Allah al-Ma'mun. This is a gold dinar, weighs ~4.05 grams and is ~17 mm in diameter. The coin shows the date of minting as 204 AH and shows the mint name as Misr (al-Fustat on the outskirts of Cairo the current capital of Egypt). The obverse of the coin has the words "La Illaha ell Allah, Wahduh la Sharik Lah al-Maghrib" in the center with al-Magjrib referring to the west as in west of Iraq and specifically Egypt. Condition: The coin is date 204 AH or 819 AD. I would grade this coin as nice fine or better. The coin has very readable calligraphy with well centered strike. The coin is a bit off-round. The coin shows general wear, some soiling and has scratches in the field all of which can be seen in the photos. Be that as it may the coin is fine looking and of good quality. It was named for al-Abbas (566?-652), paternal uncle of the prophet Muhammad. ).
