Description: RARE 1940's - 50's California Pottery by Gilner Happy Cannibal Native Pixie Dish 1940's California Art Pottery by Gilner. This dish is from the "happy cannibal" series. They are childlike, native pixies. It features a black americana native man lounging on a leaf lid of the box. He wears a metal hoop earring as seen on the top ear. This is an outrigger canoe with two slots for holding trinkets. There is a removable top with the pixie attached to hold trinkets inside the boat as well. Reference: California Pottery Book, pg.308 Condition: Very good. Small chip on the underside, corner of the leg of boat. - see closeup pics.
