Description: Date: c.1920s Artist: McKell, James Size (in): 25.25” x 16.675” Size (cm): 64.25 x 42.5 Condition: B Linen backed: Yes This striking travel poster was created by the artist James C. McKell for the Cunard & Anchor Lines shipping company in the 1920s. McKell aptly conveys the mystique and allure of the Middle East with the dramatic image of a Bedouin Arab with a long gun and flowing white robe galloping past on a horse. The lower margin indicates “Charles K. Stokes & Co.” which was Philadelphia advertising agency that handled the Cunard & Anchor Lines account and hired McKell in 1921. James Cook McKell is most remembered today for the many pulp fiction magazine covers he created in the 1920s and 1930s but his travel posters are equally as impressive and much harder to find. This very rare vintage original poster has been professionally linen backed with vertical and horizontal fold lines expertly mitigated and a couple short edge tears discreetly repaired. The poster shows bold color and displays beautifully.
