Description: Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a nice Wave Crest opal glass ferner/jardinière in a nice large size with brass top rim and lift out copper drainer/liner. Most of the liners have been separated from the ferner over the years and it's becoming harder to find them complete and original. The opal glass body has a molded design around the lower body with three vertical molded designs equal distance around the sides. Both the front and back of the body is hand painted with soft colorful fern fronds. Glass is marked on the bottom with the C. F. Monroe Wave Crest trademark stamp. This ferner is pictured on page 23 of the book "Wave Crest, The Glass of C. F. Monroe" by Wilfred R. Cohen. Opal Ware glass was at the height of its popularity from 1890 to 1910 and much of the opal glass known as Wave Crest was produced by the Mount Washington Glass Company and purchased by the C. F. Monroe Co. as undecorated glass blanks to be decorated by the artists employed there. Measures 4 1/4" high with the top measuring 6 1/4" with an overall width of 7 1/4". Weighs 2.3 pounds. This nice ferner is in very good to excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws to the glass. The brass collar has an antiqued finish with nice patina although there is some minor corrosion on the bottom outside edge. The copper liner reflects use with water marks, etc. but has no breaks or cracks in the metal. Overall, the ferner is considered to be in very good condition reflecting only minor signs of normal wear.
