Description: The 1940 model naval cadet broadsword was introduced as an item of equipment by order of the People's Commissar of the Navy No. 574 of 1940. The broadsword was ordered to be worn by cadets of naval schools in all cases when outside the territory of the school and the ship. The broadsword was worn on an appropriate strap, worn on the waist belt on the left, slightly behind the slot of the left pocket. With an overcoat, the broadsword is worn over it, with flannel and uniform shirts - along the trouser sash on top of the flap.In the post-war period, cases of cadets at naval schools using broadswords in conflicts with civilians while on leave became more frequent. Since 1958, the broadsword has become an item of uniform equipment only for assistants at the Naval Flag on special occasions and an item of equipment for persons on daily duty when on duty (company duty officer, orderly). In 1975, the naval cadet broadsword as an item of equipment was completely abolished. All broadswords that had survived up to this point were destroyed in accordance with the established procedure.The scabbard is made of wood coated with shiny black varnish. The metal parts of the sheath and guard are made of blued steel. The handle is wooden. The broadsword blade is without fullers, almost straight. The blade bears the designation of the manufacturer - the letters "ZIK" in a triangle and the year of manufacture - "1946"\ NO15318.
