Description: This cover was sent from the British Post Office in Constantinople, Ottoman Empire, to Middleboro(ugh), Massachusetts, U.S.A., on June 6, 1882! It had to later be forwarded to Amherst, Massachusetts. It was sent to a Reverend George Washburn, D.D. He was a famous and respected educator, missionary, and the second president of Robert College in Constantinople(1878-1903)! To continue, outside of one or two, slightly shorter perfs at its bottom, right corner, the blue, 2.5-d, GB Victoria, Plate 23, stamp is in very good condition! Though a bit light/faded in places, the black, SOTN, "C," cancel from the British P.O. in Constantinople is quite excellent! The red CDS from that same post office is superb! The transit, duplex cancel(6/24) from the New York P.O. is decent, but rather light/faded in places. The initial, receiving, duplex cancel(6/26/82) from the Middleborough P.O. is awesome! The mail was finally forwarded to Amherst on June 27, and received pretty great, but incomplete CDS(due to how the envelope was reduced upon being opened)! Lastly, as for the condition of the envelope, it's pretty good. It does have some light toning/stains around its edges(one either side). There are some nicks in its edges, too. The back flap is about 90-95% intact. Noted imperfections aside, this remains neat piece of mail sent in 1882 through the British Post Office in Constantinople, Ottoman Empire, to then-President of Robert College, Reverend George Washburn! He must have been back in The U.S. on some kind of personal or school business.
