BLOW magazine - Issue 7 1995 "Babes In Crisis"

Description: Rare vintage copy of Blow magazine from 1995 (Issue 7). Cover: Suzie photographed by Fiona Freund. Blow was a cultish fashion magazine noted for its satirical appropriation of the icons, idols, imagery and preoccupations of fashion publications contemporaneous with the fashion scene both in London and internationally during the early to mid 1990s. Produced and edited by James Pretlove and Michael Oliveira-Salac, Blow appeared (externally at least) to be styled so as to sit harmoniously amongst the many self-consciously edgy fashion mags emerging at the time. A peak beyond the glossy cover however belied not only its distinctly uncommercial origins - single sided, black-and-white matt-finish newsprint, extensive scissors-and-photocopier post punk collage, zero Calvin Klein adverts - but also its sardonic intent, indicated by material generated by some gentle if sometimes not exactly unsubtle yanking of the fashion worlds' many, many loose threads, its hypocrisies and inconsistencies, its ludicrous idolatry and pathetic fawning - deftly gathering just enough yarn to weave a satisfyingly knowing pastiche without unravelling the whole messy business entirely. Blow wasn't particularly derisive or mocking, but it did clearly constitute an inside-job form of parody that could really only come from people who themselves were part of, or had at least spent time being part of, the world it satirised. And even the if the inevitable disaffect and disenchantment that comes as standard with any career in fashion can be felt, it doesn't suppress their enduring love for this silly world in all its ridiculous glory. This magazine is in good condition. All pages are intact and undamaged. There are signs of normal handling and some discolouration consistent with age, mainly evident on the spine. There is also stain on the upper left hand corner of the back cover. (See photographs for condition of magazine).
