I liked the album art and had high hopes for this band. I was not dissapointed. This is one of the most dynamic bands ive heard! Its got everything i love in their songs! The drums are busy yet driving like a mix between stewart copeland and john bonham, bass is melodic and catchy, none of that bass notes of the guitar chords stuff here! It would have been hard for that kind of bass player to do that anyways with Jeremy Posts amazing combo of intricut fingerpicking combined with lead lines and distortion type guitar parts! Excellent musicians! The lyrics dont dissapoint either! They are real, they mean something, they speak truth without getting too obvious and tired. Its almost like sting or mccartney had helped jeremy pen them out. The only hangup i can see people having with this band is jeremy's singing. He doesnt have the best range and he has a habit of doing this descending note after a lot of the lyrics. But its still way way way better than mewithoutyou's singer! Jeremy's style kinda bothered me at first, it grew on me. If you like jimi hendrix's singing, then youll be fine. Plus the guitar n lyrics n krist noveselic type bass and amazing drums are just too good to ignore! Amazing band. I love them. They never achieved great success in terms of sales, but the combination of catchy riffs, driven drums, and insightful, articulate lyrics makes for an excellent combination that few groups have matched since then. Especially catchy are Adrian James and Confirmation Day, bot recorded live. The topics treated are child abandonment and the confirmation of Catholic youth at mass. The former topic reminds us of Pearl Jam's hit Jeremy. The second represents a topic that no one else could treat adequately. The albums of Black Eyed Sceva and Model Engine are really undiscovered treasures and well worth the purchase. Lead singer Jeremy Post has great, contemplative lyrics, and these boys know how to write a song! Not a successful album commercialy but wow is it good! This band renamed in 97 becoming Model Engine and disbanded in 2000. This cd includes 3 live songs from Sceva's from Way Before the Flood cd-1994, 4 new songs (the last written as Black Eyed Sceva) and a even a cool cover of the Police, Invisible Sun. A Great AlbumDecember 1, 2008Format: Audio CDBlack Eyed Sceva's song-writing on this album was so good. They tapped into a Nirvana vein, but they made it their own. It's raw, gritty, but not noisy. Their lyrics are thought-provoking instead of mind-numbing. Every time songs from this album come up on the shuffle, I'm happy they are there. I hope other Christians who write music are inspired by this nineties rock band.
