Description: This is a pair of adjustable Bitubo WME shocks that I bought for a special I have just finished - they are very high quality shocks that cost well over £400 new, but unfortunately I they don't suit my bike. The full details on why they don't suit is given below, but these should be fine for any regular CB500 (or other bike of a similar weight) for road or track use, and they will probably fit other twin shock machines too.I have included a photo of the bike I've just built with these shocks fitted along with a photo showing the mileage the bike has done since is was finished. The last 11 miles have been done on the replacement shocks, so the mileage done on these shocks is 55. These shocks have a screw type preload adjustment and single circuit damping adjustment with 5 positions ranging from soft to hard (single circuit means that one adjuster alters both rebound and compression damping together). These come with the original packaging, paperwork & preload adjustment wrench. The dimensions are:Length (top eye centre to bottom eye centre) 345mmTop rubber eye 15.5mm inside diameter (designed to fit on 16mm mount) x 21.5mm wide (rubber will compress when you tighten the mounting bolt so designed for a mount that is approx. 20mm wide).Bottom steel eye inside diameter 14mm (without spacer) or 10mm (with spacer) - original spacers included.Spring outside diameter approx. 63mm.I don't know what the spring rate is, but when I ordered the shocks, I gave Bitubo the rider weight (85kg incl. leathers, helmet, etc.) and I told them that it's for a CB500 track bike. As for why they don't suit my bike... Basically, my bike is probably about 15 to 20kg lighter than most CB500 track/race bikes, and most of that weight has come off the back end - and I am not a heavy rider either. So in order to get the right sort of static and rider sag, I had to take a lot of preload out of the springs. In the photo you can see a white-ish coloured area on the preload threads - this is where the preload was set when I received the shocks (and probably somewhere near where it would end up for most CB500s), so you can see that I have taken off a lot of preload. And because most of the preload has been taken out, the shocks now have too much rebound damping for my application. With a more "normal" preload setting, the shocks would rebound with a lot more force, so the damping would be OK - it just doesn't work on my bike because it's so light as compared to others. Testament to this is that I just received some replacement shocks from Hagon. Lots of CB500 race bikes use Hagon shocks, so Hagon know what springs normally work - and I told them that the bike was lighter than most, so they supplied the lighter of the 2 spring options they have for CB500s - but the Hagons are also too hard! Hagon are sending me some softer springs, but this illustrates why the Bitubo shocks don't work on my bike - there's nothing wrong with the shocks (they are very good quality in fact) - it's just that my bike is different to most, so they don't work on my bike.Delivery is by Royal Mail Tracked 48 - or you can pay cash on collection (we are near Staplehurst in Kent).
