There are 3 cards in this lot. Russell, a Basketball Hall of Famer, was a 2-time All-American at the University of San Francisco. He led the Dons to two NCAA Championships in 1955 and 1956. Russell was the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player in 1955 and UPI's College Player of the Year in 1956. A 3-time All-WCC from 1954-56, he was the WCC Player of the Year in 1956. His Number 6 is retired by San Francisco, and he is a member of the Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame's First Class. As an Olympian representing the United States, he helped bring home the Gold Medal in 1956. A 1st Round pick of the St. Louis Hawks (2nd Overall) in the 1956 NBA Draft, he was traded to the Boston Celtics for Cliff Hagen. Russell played with the Boston Celtics from 1956-1969, winning an amazing 11 NBA Championships in his 13 seasons. The last 3 of those seasons he was Player-Coach, winning 2 Titles. Many of those Championships were won against his top Rival and good friend Wilt Chamberlain. Along the way, Russell won 5 NBA MVP Awards, was a 12-time All-Star, 1963 All-Star Game MVP, led the NBA in Rebounding 4 times, was 3-time All-NBA First Team and was 8-time All-NBA Second Team. One of the All-Time Greats, Russell was Named to NBA 25th Anniversary, 35th Anniversary, 50th Anniversary and 75th Anniversary Teams. His Number 6 is not only retired by the Boston Celtics but is retired by all NBA Teams. That Honor puts him in company with just Jackie Robinson in Major League Baseball and Wayne Gretzky in the NHL. For his career Russell scored 14,522 Points (15.1 ppg); had 21,620 Rebounds (22.5 avg); and 4,100 Assists (4.3 avg). He was not only elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame as a player, but also as a coach. Along with coaching the Celtics at the end of his playing career, he later coached the Seatle Supersonics 1973-1977 and the Sacramento Kings in 1987-88. Because of his Championship success, the NBA Finals MVP Award was named after Russell beginning in 2009. Russell was presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011.
