Acquired from the original owner by the current owner. Belkis Ayon, a Cuban artist who gained early recognition for her artistic and pedagogical work. Her artistic discourse revolved around concepts related to spirituality and, therefore, religion, specifically one of the religious traditions brought to Cuba from Africa, Calabar - currently located in Nigeria. This religious tendency, which has been recognized in Cuba to this day as Abakúa, is an exclusively male and secretive brotherhood. This association is based on a myth that excludes and rejects women, known as the myth of Sikan. Belkis explored this thought through her visual discourse, focusing her study on universal questions. Her graphic work set the tone for the development of art in the Cuban art scene, particularly in the technique of collagraphy. She produced limited editions, creating larger works that approached installation art and incorporating a multitude of textures that blurred the line between graphic art and painting. She also organized events that fueled the art movement on the island, such as "La Huella Múltiple." Belkis and her work have received numerous international recognitions, including the recent retrospective exhibition at the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid, Spain, in 2021. The serigraphy corresponds to the poster that promoted Belkis' solo exhibition in 1991, and it's signed by the artist. BELKIS AYON MANSO. Grabado. Arte Cubano. Arte Contemporáneo.
