Description: This antique Satsuma jar,'Kambara in Snow' (The 15th station), is a scene featured in the "Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō" by Utagawa Hiroshige, is a stunning piece of Japanese artistry.1 The jar is made of pottery and is signed by the artist [See last 2 photos - signature is identified as Sozan (Kinkozan School)].2 It features a finely painted winter village scene. Crazing typical to Satsuma pottery observed. No cracks, breakage or restoration observed. A very light scratch to the gold paintwork on the body of the jar was observed but not immediately noticeable and does not detract from the artwork. Otherwise, excellent condition.
