Bayou Caddy's Jubilee Casino, Lakeshore, MS 39558 (CLOSED) > Pre-2012 Matchbook Highlights: Bayou Caddy's Jubilee Casino - CLOSED The Jazziest Casino on the Coast, 5005 South Beach Blvd., Lakeshore, Mississippi 39558 Bayou Caddy's Jubilee Casino in Lakeshore, Mississippi was closed in 2012 for remodeling, consolidated with Lighthouse Point Casino, and re-opened as Trop Casino Greenville. The Inside cover says, "Legend has it that, shortly after playing a decisive role in the Battle of New Orleans, Jean Lafitte and his band of buccaneers left the city under pressure from the American authorities. They sailed to the east and established a hideaway at the mouth of Bayou Caddy on the Mississippi coast. This hideaway was a sumptuous pleasure palace that rivaled - even surpassed - any thing the Vieux Carre had to offer. Privileged members of the creole aristocracy secretly visited Lafitte's hideaway and came back with tales of incredible gaming experiences in a most luxurious setting with great food and rousing music. In time, the place became known as Bayou Caddy's Jubilee Casino. No one knows what happened to the original Jubilee Casino. But the descendents of Lafitte's crew still live along the bayou where they are now shrimpers and fisherman. And you can play and eat and celebrate life just like the fabled buccaneers and their guests, the creole aristocrats, today . . . at Bayou Caddy's Jubilee Casino." Matchbook Collecting Fun FactsMatchbooks have been around since 1892, when Joshua Pusey patented the idea of paper matches, whose tips were dipped in a solution of sulphur and phosphorus and then stapled to a piece of cardboard. In 1962, government safety rules decreed that friction strips must be moved from the outside-front of a matchbook to the outside back, thus obviating the need for the famous phrase "Close Cover Before Striking." Some phillumenists collect covers based on the company that made the matchbooks. In addition to Atlas, D.D. Bean, Diamond, Federal, Lion, Monarch, and Ohio among others, all produced collectible covers and features. Many collectors choose to organize their covers collection based on category. For some reason, match-cover art is particularly transcendent when it comes to matchbooks for places to eat. The graphics and colors are frequently rich and vivid. In a few glorious cases the covers are printed with full-length designs. When the cover is flattened and turned sideways, it resembles a small billboard for the eating establishment. Get Started With Matchbook Collecting It's quite easy to begin your matchbook collection. When you pass by the hostess stand of a restaurant, take a look to see if there is a basket of matchbooks. Ask the host or hostess, since they may keep these behind the stand. Hotel concierges might also have matchbooks which are kept behind the front desk for smoking patrons and matchbook collectors. Serious matchbook collectors put their matchbook collections in plastic sleeves, in special binders. They often use the same plastic sleeves that baseball card collectors use. This is an easy and inexpensive way to preserve your matchbook collection and increase it's value. Matchbook Collecting StepsStep One: Decide if you want to collect matchbooks, matchboxes or both. Before you start collecting, think of creative ways you'd like to display your collection.Step Two: During your leisure time and travels, keep your eyes open for opportunities to collect matchbooks.
