From findagrave: His mother was Helen Dunlop Laird (1805-1832). On June 5, 1866 as William Laird Jr., he married Anna Key Ridgley in the District of Columbia. They had no children. The Evening Star Tuesday, August 25, 1891 Death of Wm. Laird Jr. One of the Most Prominent Citizens of Georgetown, Dies at Niagara Falls Mr. William Laird Jr., one of the oldest and best respected citizens of the District, died last night at the Catarnet House, Niagara Falls. Up to a few months ago Mr. Laird had unusual good health. Last May, however, his health became impaired and he was obliged on that account to resign the cashiership of the Farmers’ and Mechanics’ National Bank, which position he had held with credit to himself and to the bank for many years. Lately Mr. Laird went to Niagara Falls and today comes the sad news of his death. There are few men who have been so closely identified with the growth of a city as Mr. Laird has been with the past of Georgetown. A native of the place, he for forty years acted as cashier for the Farmers’ and Mechanics’ Bank and devoting his whole time and attention to the institution, its growth is materially owing to his close application and business integrity. In 1848 Mr. Laird entered the bank as a discount clerk. In 1851 he was made cashier and up to last May, when his resignation was reluctantly accepted, he has held the position. Possessing the confidence of every one as a man of sterling integrity, Mr. Laird’s death will be keenly felt by the business community. For his personal characteristics, having the love and respect of all whom he met, his death will be a heavy blow to his host of friends. Georgetown especially will miss a business man and a warm friend.
