Description: This beautiful Automeris IO moth form “io” is the common subspecies found in most of the eastern United States. Please contrast in the pictures to the subspecies “lileth” from the Florida Keys. It has been farm raised and is in pristine condition, ready to be added to your collection of unique and exotic insects. The Io moth form “Io” differs from its Florida Keys sub species in several ways. The mail is more yellow in color instead of rusty orange and has much more dark forward markings. The hind wing eye spots are larger as well. The females are more brown than the Florida Keys subspecies. They have more white overscaling and the eyespots are larger than the subspecies from the Keys. Form “lileth” is different from other color forms of this moth. Males are much more rusty in color and patterning is more subtle than USA mainland io moth species. Females also are very different in color than mainland individuals. With its vibrant colors and intricate patterns, this butterfly is a true work of art. Its wingspan measures approximately 4 inches and it belongs to the family of Saturniidae moths. Don't miss out on the opportunity to own a piece of the Florida Keys' biodiversity.
