Asclepias curassavica-Florida Wild-Type Tropical Milkweed 60 Seeds

Description: You are bidding on 60 seeds of Asclepias curassavica or Tropical Milkweed. This seed is from Central Florida and is adapted for this climate. It can grow in a variety of environments from partial to full sun and from moist to dry soil. It grows quickly and seeds readily. It germinates in about 10 to 14 days depending on conditions and is a fast growing perennial. The blooms are crimson red and bright yellow. Some plants may have only yellow or scarlet blooms. It is one of the preferred milkweeds for Monarch propagation. Plants will produce seed pods throughout the year. The stock plants I use for seed production are not treated with any pesticides and are many generations from parent plants from wild areas of Central Florida. Though not a native it is an important food plant for the Monarch and is especially useful for food stock when raising butterflies. For best results, plants should be cut to a few inches above the ground to insure healthy, robust foliage and growth and to help minimize the concentration of OE spores that are common with this type of milkweed in the Southeastern United States.
