Armor Bronze-Clad Bookends: Reims (France) Cathedral; Monochrome; c1925; 8" Tall

Description: A set of bronze-clad bookends of France's Reims Cathedral. The backs of the bookends are marked "Rheims Cathedral/1914", using a variant spelling of Reims. Toward the bottoms of the back sides are the marks of the maker, Armor Bronze: a "C" (copyright) in a circle on the left, and an "O" in a shield (the maker's symbol) on the right. Made between 1920 and 1929, when Armor Bronze was located in New York City. Originally, there would have been company stickers on the bottoms, but they are long gone. MATERIAL: Bronze-cladding over composition, with a painted gold finish. CONDITION: The bookends are in pretty good condition. There is rubbing wear to the sides of the bases. One bookend has a bump at one back corner of its base; the other bookend has a bit of white paint on the left side of its base (see the last two photos). The backs show some wear and a couple of spots. Otherwise, the set is in nice shape. DIMENSIONS: Each bookend measures approximately 8" tall, 6" wide, and 4" deep at the base. Together the set weighs 7 pounds, 5.3 ounces. There is a slight difference between the bookends in weight, a common situation with bronze-clad bookends because of a difference in the weight of the composition material underlying the bronze-cladding.
