Description: This listing is for a piece of fabric which was flown to the moon on Apollo 14, and carried to the lunar surface onboard the Lunar Module Antares. The artifact measures approximately 1" across, and it's been mounted to an 8x10" photo for display. This item also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity listing its provenance. This fabric originally belonged to the mission's Command Module Pilot, Stuart Roosa. Roosa was close friends with a family named the Phillips, who owned Dos Arroyos Ranch at the time of the mission. As a gift, he had a unique flag custom-produced with the ranch's logo. This flag was folded and stored in his LEM Personal Preference Kit, where it was carried to the lunar surface. After Apollo 14 successfully splashed down in the Pacific, the PPKs (and the astronauts) were placed in post-lunar quarantine for almost two weeks, as a precaution against the unlikely possibility that the lunar surface contained harmful pathogens. After the end of this quarantine, Roosa had the Dos Arroyos flag framed and presented to the Phillips family. In 2023, they sold this flag in an auction hosted by Heritage, the world leader in space-related auctions. The fabric for sale here was taken from this flag. Each Certificate of Authenticity will include photos of the original flag, along with photos of your specific piece being removed from it and added to the new display.
