Description: Up for sale is a neat antique wood scythe sharpening stone holder. This treen holder dates to the early 1800s, if not slightly earlier. Farmers wore these out in the field. It carried a sharpening stone that they would use to sharpen the scythes in the field (rather than walk back to the barn to do it). This one shows lots of usage wear (inside especially). They wore a hole in the bottom (the sides are worn out internally as well). The outside features a great dry original surface. No repairs. No touch ups. Tip has some wear and loss. Top edge has a section worn down from sliding the stone in and out. It is signed I.R. in two spots. I guess these could be the person who made it but might be the owner's initials too.I'm unsure of the wood. Piece looks more European than American. Found in the Midwest US.
