Description: Antique Victorian long chain necklace. 15ct gold. Made in England, United Kingdom, 19th century. Measurements: Weight is 62.2 grams. 60inches long (152.4cm) Description : Fantastically versatile and attractive, very solid gold chain. Pairs of links at right angles to one another. Links are round with raised sides bordering concave middle. Great quality. Can be wound multiple times around the neck, worn at varying lengths and to suit any occasion. A simple jumplink is likely a later clasp. Marks and Metal: 15C marked near the opening. Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. How did she wear it and with what outfits? How did it get to us? From the age, we know that generations of women have owned and enjoyed this versatile jewel. However, exactly because of its very versatility, we can't identify the original owner. We can assume that she was a lady of means because this quality and size of gold necklace was not available to most people. Was she given the chain for some kind of coming out event to mark her introduction into society? Did she celebrate an anniversary, wedding, engagement or birth of a child with this necklace? We are left wondering. Perhaps that makes it all the more exciting to be the next in line, owning, enjoying and taking care of this wonderful gold chain and then perhaps leaving a clue for the coming generations who will own it later.
