Description: This is an antique Stanley Wood and Brass Spirit Level. The Level has lettering on the main bubble plate that says, "Stanley Rule & Level Co. New Britain, Conn, U.S.A." Above that it says, "PAT. Feb 1890," and in the plate there is a slot head screw that says, "Adjusting Screw." There is another plate for the vertical leveling bubble that says, "Adjusting Screw, Pat. 1890." The level is in excellent condition with both glass bubbles intact and working. It shows signs of being used with some tiny nicks, small dents, and a bit of paint spattering, but for its age it is in remarkably good condition. It has not been cleaned, refinished, or had the brass polished. It is 28 1/4 inches long, 3 1/16 inches wide, and 1 3/8 inches thick. It weighs 2 pounds, 12 ounces. The Stanley rule and Level Company was founded in 1857 by Henry Stanley, who was a cousin of F. R. Stanley who founded the Stanley Works Company previously in 1843. The Company has a long and interesting history and are well known for the quality of their products by anyone having used any of their many different hand tools. (Such as your great great grandfather.) This plane was made for a number of years from 1890 on. We thought it of interest to anyone who appreciates well made, old hand tools and wants them intact and unrestored. A new owner may wish to restore it but we like it as is and think it adds to the stories it could tell. We invite your inspection and offer. We should be able to ship it within the U.S. for under $12.00 and we accept returns for any reason within 30 days.
