Description: Vintage Ifugau tribal basket, N.Philippines, bamboo and rattan , early to mid 20century. This is a wonderful sturdy round rattan basket or bowl used for rice and food or storage from the Ifugao people of the Luzon Cordillera Range of the Philippines. For centuries, basketry formed an essential part of all aspects of daily life in this area, and the Ifugao are known for their craftsmanship in basketry. Baskets are made of bamboo, rattan, or a combination of the two. Dimensions: Diameter 18 Inches Height 9 1/2 inches This basket is in very good condition with nice patina of age and use. Since I acquired this basket in 1994 it has had a faint odor of wood smoke from it's original use, possibly smoking food items or using charcoal to stain and color the basket.I am shipping it from a non smoking fragrance free home.
