The report, entitled “Exploration’s and Surveys to Ascertain the Most Practical and Economical Route for a Railroad from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean” was rich in geographical, zoological, botanical, geological, and natural history observations and included topographical maps, pictures, lithographs, and technical data. With this print titled: “Distribution of Goods to the Assiniboines”, John Mix Stanley documented a meeting on the northern Great Plains with the Assiniboine people and captured the richness of their culture and lifestyle during the mid-nineteenth century. Stanley placed side by side the Assiniboine Indian camp with the encampment of the Isaac Stevens survey party. The Assiniboine are sitting down while Isaac Stevens, the survey leader, can be seen presenting trade goods. MEASUREMENTS: The page that the scene is printed on measures approximately: 11-1/2" x 8-1/4". CONDITION: The print is in good condition, captivating to look at. It does, however, show expected signs of age: yellowing, foxing, edge wear, and darkening around the edges. It will look amazing once framed. Please see pictures.
