Description: Antique Norwegian Carved Butter MoldNorway Folk Art Five Pieces of wood fitted together to form a square with a pyramid shaped top. These elaborately carved butter molds were carved to be used during celebrations and holidays. They are from the early part of the 19th century. Most had the ability to hold three to four pounds of butter. When ready to be served the mold inverted on a wooden pedestal serving plate and the top and sides were removed. It must have been a beautiful sight! ***This butter mold has incredible carving, with initials in the first section and each of the four pieces beautifully designed. It is missing its little wooden peg to hold the pieces tightly when molding the butter and a couple of towels that secure the lid. ***It has been used for certain, and has nice patina on the outside. It measures 7 3/4in when put together, from the bottom to the top tip of the pyramid shaped lid. It is 4 1/2 in square on the bottom part. A heavy solid piece, it weighs 1lb 8 oz. *****Please look at all photos, zoom in and let me know if you want any more photos or need more informationPlease send me any questions you may have as I very well could miss something that is important to you.
