Description: Rare antique late 19th century (c1890s) original India ink painting from Czech artist Joseph Ulrich (1857-1930). Depicts a Victorian bedroom interior scene with a young woman greeting her husband who is still waking up in his bedroom. One can note the wonderful detail in the scene especially in the facial features and lamp in the room. Signed in ink in the painting and inscribed and signed again at base “Good Morning Lazy One? by J. Ulrich, Prague”. An incredible original painting from Ulrich, whose work is becoming increasingly harder to find for many pieces are in private collections. Medium is India ink wash and gouache on paper done in an almost Realist style. Painting in Excellent overall condition. Clean and crisp. No holes, rips, tears or creases. One spot of foxing in the top left corner but not noticeable until a much closer inspection is done. Very well preserved. Please note there is no discoloration to the mat or piece and is simply light reflecting of the glass in the photos, thanks! Protected behind glass, matted and framed in an expensive contemporary woven cloth mat with gold gilded interior boarding and housed in an equally elegant gold washed gesso and wood frame. Backed with brown paper and ready to hang. The frame job alone likely cost the previous owner $200+. The paining measures about 8” x 7” with the mat viewing window being about 8” x 9”.
