Antique Jean N Oliver Poland Springs Apple Trees O/B Landscape Painting

Description & Condition: Jean Nutting Oliver Massachusetts artist (1883-1946)Up for sale is this antique circa 1920 American impressionist oil on board landscape painting titled "Spring Poland Springs". It depicts apple trees during the spring blossom. It measures 10" by 7 7/8" and is in fair condition with loss to upper left corner and paint chips along the edges. It is signed in lower right and has a "National Association of Women Painters and Sculptures" paper label on reverse which has the title. It needs a little restoration but is a great painting.Here is some info on the artist:JEAN NUTTING OLIVEROliver, born in Lynn, Massachusetts in 1859, was a product of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, a student of Frank W. Benson and Edmund Tarbell, and she studied privately with Philip L. Hale and Charles Woodbury. Besides working as a portrait, figure, miniature and flower painter, Oliver was a writer on art for the Boston Sunday Advertiser and she published reviews elsewhere. She joined various organizations and exhibited sporadically: at the Art Institute of Chicago (1905-16), at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, at the Corcoran Gallery in 1910, and at the National Academy of Design three years later. She showed two paintings at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco and had a one-woman show at Doll and Richards Gallery in 1918. In addition, Jean Nutting Oliver took part in shows at the Society of Independent Artists (1917-26), at the Gloucester Society of Artists, and at the North Shore Arts Association. Around 1920, she painted The Salt Ship, Provincetown, a loose, sketchy oil on board, highlighted with thick impasto pigment, applied with broad, horizontal brushstrokes.
