NOTE: there is some foxing here and there you can notice. Very Nice antique aquatint engraving by Joseph C. Stadler after Joseph Farington expertly mounted in a modern gold wooden frame. Published in 1796 by John & Josiah Boydell in "A History of The River Thames" at the Boydell's Shakespeare Gallery, Pall Mall and Cheapside, London. It is titled, dated (1793) and credited within the border. Farington's watercolor view has been skillfully and faithfully represented by Stadler, one of the most accomplished engravers of his age. A lovely view of Panghorn & Whitchurch from Purley. ABOUT THE ARTISTS Joseph Constantine Stadler was a printmaker of German origins, working in London between 1780 - 1819. He specialized in aquatint. Joseph Farington was a landscape painter and diarist. He studied in Manchester, and moved to London in 1763 to be taught in the studio of Richard Wilson. He became a member of the Society of Artists in 1765, and joined the Royal Academy at its inception in 1769, and became an academician 1785. He submitted work annually until 1801 and continued to exhibt at the academy until 1813. The print measures approximately measures 9" High x 13" Wide and the frame is 16 5/8" High x 20 1/8" Wide.
