Description: Charming and dainty antique Edwardian, oak-backed silver perpetual calendar by silversmith William Harrison Walter of Newgate Street, London, hallmarked for Birmingham with a date letter of 1907. There is also a British Registered Design Number of 462044. This lovely piece has a shaped top and is decorated with hand-crafted repousse ribbon and swag detail. There are two apertures; one for the day which can be changed by pushing down on the lever on either side and a larger one which contains the plaquette with the month detailed. These calendars were particularly popular at the end of the 19th and early 20th century, with Art Deco examples being more common. It is probable this one was used on a lady’s desk due to its size and feminine detailing. Dimensions are pedestal length 10.5cms x height 9cms. This is a pretty and highly decorative item which would not look out of place on a desk today and which would make a unique gift for someone with taste and refinement!
