Description: Antique French Immortelle Beaded Glass Mourning Wreath. Good condition “Immortelle” is a French word that means “everlasting.” In the world of French Beaded Flowers this term refers to the beaded Mourning Wreaths – or Couronnes de Mortuaire – that were popular in Europe during the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s. These incredible creations were large beaded flower displays that were usually used as a memorial for someone who had passed on. This wreath has a glass dome with a cross in the center,. The beading is in pretty good condition. The “S” in “Regrets” is a little worn but still attached to the wreath. There are also some stains on some of the lettering (look at photos for reference) While there are many shapes and forms for Immortelles, generally they feature a display of beaded flowers in the center, with bead-wrapped metal framing around or under the flowers. This wreath is 18 inches long This wreath comes with a beaded hanger so that it’s easy to display on a wall if you so wish. This wreath is also lightweight and easy to hold.
