This is a unique and beautiful antique chess set with intricate Eastlake handcrafted details. This chess set is ideal for collectors and enthusiasts with its antique Victorian (1837-1901) style and antique charm. The chess board shows its age with some edge cracks and repairs as shown in pictures. The chess pieces have one larger white bishop, black knights with a glossy finish, and a black pawn with a chipped top as shown in pictures. There is a storage drawer for the chess pieces that fits inside the chess board via a sliding compartment door. One of the corner piece medallions slides over to make room for the compartment door to slide. This door is a bit sticky when sliding and requires some persuasion to open fully. The opposite side has a sliding door as well, but it is difficult to move and does not travel as far as the storage compartment door. I'm not sure of the purpose for this second sliding door. There is an area on the chess board side where two squares have some scribble indentations which I have shown in a picture. Overall, this is an interesting and unique chess set. I have had other chess sets professionally refurbished to like new condition, but I will leave that decision up to the new owner for this fine chess set.
