This work was translated by Laurentius Uwens from the latin ed., published in the same year: 'Imago primi saeculi societatis Iesu ...' The famous centennial publication of the Low Countries Jesuits, containing beautiful emblematic engravings. Artists and Engravers: Authors: Johannes Bolland (1596-1665), Jean de Tollenaere (1582-1643), Sidronius de Hossche (1596-1653), Jacques van de Walle (1599-1690), Philip Fruytiers (1610-1666). Engraver: Cornelis Galle (Flemish 1576-1650). Subject: Antique emblem print, page 467, captioned: Hi feros cultus hominum recentum voce formabunt (Who tames the savage with new words). It shows: Hermes (with Caduceaus and winged helmet and shoes) and Apollo (his lyre standing on the ground) both carving baby-like figures from a tree. The branches of the tree bear children.
