It features a "MAP OF THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE" On the reverse side are various engravings and other text from the book. It is a detailed map measuring approximately 9 1/2" x 12", including the border area. This map is from "MITCHELL'S NEW INTERMEDIATE GEOGRAPHY" The Third Book of The Series - "A SYSTEM OF MODERN GEOGRAPHY, DESIGNED FOR THE USE OF SCHOOLS AND ACADEMIES; ILLUSTRATED BY 23 COPPER-PLATE MAPS DRAWN AND ENGRAVED EXPRESSLY FOR THIS WORK FROM THE LATEST AUTHORITIES; AND EMBELLISHED WITH NUMEROUS ENGRAVINGS." - by Augustus Mitchell - Revised Edition, With A Concise System of Map-Drawing. Published by E. H. Butler & Co., Philadelphia - 1872. It is generally in Good- Condition. It is on thin paper and there is age related browning and toning and some spotting and stains. It has some tears and chips around the edges of the border - but most of them do not affect the map (unless noted). There are holes along one edge from where it was originally bound. There is a tear along the right edge that extends into the map and the bottom border is creased. Other dings here and there, as well. This map would be a great addition to any collection and will look very nice when framed! Please note that while I have included a picture of the Title Page of the Atlas that this map was taken from, it is NOT included in the sale, as it is a reference piece to determine authenticity for other maps/engravings.
