Description: Antique Chinese Mahjong Set with Bone Tiles, in Brass Mounted Hardwood Cabinet A fabulous mahjong tile set dating from the early to mid 20th Century, contained within its original wooden travelling box with lift up cover to the front and brass decoration an carry handles. The pieces are made from bone (bovine) and bamboo joined with the symbols and pictures finely carved into the bone. It is a high quality set with a good proportion of bone, approximately 30% bone to 70% bamboo joined with a nicely cut dovetail joint. This is a set of 144 tiles including 8 blanks, 3 very small dice plus one slightly larger and a large quantity of sticks. The tiles measure approximately 30mm x 22mm x 10mm.The box measures approximately 24cm long x 16.5cm x 17cm tall. It is strong and sturdy.sticks measures approximately 7.5cm long Generally good condition, no major damage and the joints are all in good order. It has been well looked after but shows signs of age and use. Please see images for full details. The pull ring and backplate on the second drawer seem to be slightly different colour to that of the other drawers, (possibly been replaced at some point). There is a chip to one of the tiles. Slight bend to brass corner at the back top left of the box, this can be seen in the first image and the side image.
