Description: Another item from Country Artifacts, Great Northern Liquidation, Springfield, Vermont.A good photographic image of two couples, a tintype, taken sometime in the period of the Civil War based on other pictures found with it. It is unframed and I see no tinting or coloring. The studio backdrop is painted as a wooded scene, with ledge and rock props used, one large rock in front is big enough to use as a footstool. This picture is unusual though because of the happy smiling faces we see, particularly the women, making them appear more energetic and healthy, and more like photos taken of people today, where smiling is the norm. Even the men here have lost the common stoic stare most have in period pictures (see my other listings for examples). This image comes from the estate of Robert H. Sprague and Mary Jane (Polly) Crouch of Quechee Vermont. Mr. Sprague originates in New York State, and Mrs. Sprague is from New Jersey. The image was with a number of tintypes, including ones of Civil War soldiers in uniform (previously sold on eBay). It is probable that they are relatives of these soldiers, but I can't be sure. I have no further background information that may further identify the persons in the picture, so I'll leave that to you.The tintype measures 2-3/8" x 3-5/8".Condition is good with normal signs of age as shown. I see a couple of slight bends in the tintype , one lower left, and one midway up the right, neither easy to see from the front.
