Description: Antique Charles Ahrenfeldt Crown Saxe Hand Painted Porcelain 8.5" Poppy Plate From Dr. James Henderson's book on Bohemian porcelain, this is the mark of Charles Ahrenfeldt & Son, who decorated Bohemian porcelain. This was used around the turn of the century (early 1900s) This is a wonderful Saxe porcelain plate, dated late 19th to early 20th century. Not sure of the actual origin. I believe it is from the Charles Ahrenfeldt & Son Import Co.. Ahrenfeldt was a New York importer, as well as owning decorating studios and factories in StarRole, Czechoslovakia (Altrohlau, Bohemia, Austria) and Paris, Limoges, France. In 1831 Ahrenfeldt establishes the import business in New York City. He is thought to be the first to import Bohemian China to the United States. Which factories he imported from and whether he continued to import from other Bohemian factories after he started the StarRole (Altrohlau) decorating studio in 1886 is unknown. The plate is hand painted porcelain. Stunning!! Beautiful condition commensurate with age. Excellent! No Chips, cracks, repairs or crazing seen. Fine translucent porcelain. Minor gilt loss on edging.
