I’m guessing these were designed without a suspension liner like you see on a modern hard hat and they just expected the aluminum shell to protect your head. Tag on inside liner reads: “Sanitary Cushion Lining Pat. March 2, 1926.” This is the oldest hard hat I’ve ever seen, it needs to be in a museum. No maker’s name that I saw.
