Description: Description: I have been collecting various pieces of art with boats since my son took up antique yacht restoration....and it is perfect art for the beach house. I do find myself with just too much so putting some pieces up for sale. This is an interesting piece dating from 1885 and signed by George Clay. I believe the paint is oil on board...possibly something else with a lacquer applied. I haven't found anything about the artist so it is likely a rather nicely done work by a non-professional. What makes this piece interesting is the history. The paddle boat is marked the “Brighton Maids” so it likely sailed during the halcyon days of the famous beach resort in England. The painting is done on wood and measures 13-7/8” wide and 10” tall. The board is less that 5/16” thick. The wood is made of 4 pieces glued together. Condition: The most important flaw to note is the holes on either side where this piece must have been screwed to something. The wood is made up of 4 pieces of wood. I can see one area where the wood is separating (see close-up photo). I have not cleaned the paint....which may have a thin coat of varnish on it. Please review the pictures closely as they are part of the description. I apologize ahead of time for the cost of shipping. I only ship USPS Priority insured. International shipping is thru the Ebay global shipping program only unless we determine we can safely do so.
